In the battle of Sekigahara Toyohisa Shimazu joined the WESTERN ARMY with Yoshihiro. Shimazu’s forces fought their way through to the front of Ieyasu’s camp, and escaped to Utozaka.
But Naomasa Ii of the EASTERN ARMY, Tadakatsu Honda and others persistently chased Yoshihiro Shimazu. Toyohisa fell at Utozaka and set Yoshihiro free.
In another theory, Toyohisa suffered serious injuries at Utozaka to set Yoshihiro free, and Toyohisa arrived at the Kashihara village in a dying condition with a few of his soldiers. The villagers desperately tried to save Toyohisa, but Toyohisa committed suicide because he didn’t want to cause trouble for the Kashihara villagers.
